چکیده

New CORAVEL radial-velocity observations and UBV photometry of 24 red giants in the field of the intermediate-age open cluster Mel 71 are analysed for membership and duplicity. The membership of 16 stars is confirmed, one star is a possible member, and 8 spectroscopic binaries have been discovered , all amongst the cluster stars. Four of their orbits have been determined, with periods ranging from 74 to 1627 days. The mean cluster velocity is +50.14 ± 0.14 (s.e.) km s −1 , and the binary frequency is unusually high (8/16 = 50%). The best isochrone fit to the observed colour-magnitude digram is obtained for logt = 9.00 and Z = 0.008. However, some discrepancies appear between the observed and predicted locations of the red giant clump.

uvbyCa H β CCD Photometry of Clusters . VII . The Intermediate - Age

CCD photometry on the intermediate-band uvbyCaHβ system is presented for the anticenter, intermediate-age open cluster, Melotte 71. Restricting the data to probable single members of the cluster using the color-magnitude diagram and the photometric indices alone generates a sample of 48 F dwarfs on the unevolved main sequence. The average E(b − y) = 0.148 ±0.003 (s.e.m.) or E(B − V ) = 0.202 ±0...

Asteroseismology of red-clump stars with CoRoTand Kepler

The availability of asteroseismic constraints for a large number of red giants with CoRoT and, in the near future with Kepler, paves the way for detailed studies of populations of galactic-disk red giants. We investigate which information on the observed population can be recovered by the distribution of the observed seismic constraints: the frequency of maximum power of solar-like oscillations...

Red giants in open clusters VIII . NGC 752 ? , ? ?

The results of an 18-year radial-velocity survey of 30 red giants in the field of the open cluster NGC 752 are presented. The membership of 15 stars is confirmed. Four spectroscopic binaries have been discovered among the members and three orbits have been determined for H75, 110 and 208, with periods of 3321, 127 and 5276 days respectively. The binary frequency (27%) is normal. A search for ad...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Mixing, Enhanced Helium and Blue Tails in Globular Clusters

We investigate the consequences of an increase in the envelope helium abundance of pre-helium flash red giants in globular clusters, an occurrence suggested by chemical peculiarities in many red giant atmospheres. Comparing predictions with the CM diagrams of a few crucial globular clusters, one finds no evidence for a substantial increase in the surface helium content of horizontal branch memb...

CCD photometry of two old open clusters NGC 1798 and NGC 2192

We present UBV I CCD photometry of two open clusters NGC 1798 and NGC 2192 which were little studied before. Color-magnitude diagrams of these clusters show several features typical for old open clusters: a well-defined main-sequence, a red giant clump, and a small number of red giants. The main sequence of NGC 1798 shows a distinct gap at V ≈ 16.2 mag. From the surface number density distribut...
